Some of the most popular genre films of the year have also been cited by science buffs as the "most science-distorting movies" of 2012.
According to PopSci, the year's seven worst offenders are as follows, from the mildest violations to the most severe:
- The Amazing Spider-Man for "blatant disregard for the conservation of mass."
- Looper, because backward time travel is impossible.
- Skyfall, for some of Q's computer hacking and for Bond's amazing ability to endure freezing water as long as he does.
- The Avengers. One word: Helicarrier!
- The Dark Knight Rises, for every spoilerish thing from the ending as well as Batman's spinal recuperative skills.
- Total Recall's "gravity elevator" that allows workers to travel through the center of the planet.
- Prometheus is deemed the most egregious violator of science ... for pretty much everything in it.
