Update: USA's Ted Linehart tweeted an update this morning, revealing Psych: Season 8 will consist of only eight episodes, half the amount of the recent 16-episode seasons. This increases speculation that it will be the final year of the show - and that the eight episodes will allow the producers to wrap up storylines, given Season 7 has already completed production. For the time being, however, Linehart is not confirming whether it is the final season or not.
Original story follows.
USA has renewed Psych for Season 8. The news was revealed by USA’s Ted Linhart via Twitter Wednesday. The longest running series currently airing on the cable network, Psych’s seventh season has yet to debut, and is set for February 27th.
Psych has had some unusually long breaks in the past couple of years, and Season 7 was originally expected to debut in the fall before being held for spring. This had some fans concerned about the fate of the show, until this somewhat surprisingly-timed news about a renewal.
In his tweet, Linhart noted there were “details to come later” about Psych: Season 8, which presumably will include how many episodes it will be – though it’s possible it could also include information on whether Season 8 will be the final one or not.
