Could this be the Odd Couple of the 21st Century? Kelsey Grammer and Martin Lawrence are now considering a team-up to produce and star in a new multi-camera sitcom for Lionsgate TV and its subsidiary Debmar-Mercury.
According to Deadline, the idea began with a meeting right before Thanksgiving, during which Grammer and Lawrence shared great chemistry. Now, the project is said to be on the fast track. Apparently, the studio is currently in search of writers and will soon begin the hunt for showrunners, which will pin down the concept for the buddy comedy.
The series will likely follow the same production model as Charlie Sheen's Anger Management, which is also produced by Lionsgate TV. That show was recently given a hardy back-90 pickup following its initial 10-episode order. Similarly, should the ratings meet expectations, the Grammar/Lawrence project could see an equally impressive multi-season order. That way, Debmar-Mercury would have plenty of episodes for the show's launch in broadcast syndication.
The series would mark a return to TV for Grammer, whose drama series Boss ended its run after two seasons on Starz. Lawrence, meanwhile, has mostly stuck to feature films over the last several years, but this would be the performer's first ongoing TV gig since his eponymous FOX show ended in 1997.
