App Store Update: December 18 Monkeys, ninjas, zombies, pirates and aliens compete for the win while the App Store continues to descend into pre-Christmas madness.

Every day hundreds of new apps make their debut on the App Store, and hundreds more are updated or reduced in price. We have sifted through the noise and highlighted those select few that might be worth your attention.

Game Debuts

For the Win – ($0.99)

Another popular tabletop design arrives in digital form in the App Store. Are you prepared to put together your team of zombies, ninjas and monkeys?

Price Drops

N.O.V.A. 3 – ($0.99)

Only that one lone new release today, but we’ve got an avalanche of 21 different Price Drop picks for you today – starting with one of the best-looking games of the year.

Wild Blood – ($0.99)

Not only is this one marked all the way down to 99 cents, it’s just recently had a new multiplayer mode added. Give our video review a view and decide if Wild Blood is right for you:

Walking Dead: The Game – (First Episode Free)

The container app housing Telltale’s five episodes of Walking Dead: The Game is free to grab, and you’ll also have access to Episode 1 with your download. The final four can then be purchased at normal price, or, if you buy in bulk, you can save another couple of bucks.

Ticket to Ride – ($1.99)

Days of Wonder’s winning board game virtualization is under two dollars today, and a perfect app to load onto your iPad in advance of any family Christmas parties.

Café International – ($1.99)

Another good family board game option is Café International, which features such amenities as an auto-rotating screen that turns to face the current player on their turn.

Majesty: The Fantasy Kingdom Sim – ($0.99)

We just featured this game’s follow-up Majesty: The Northern Expansion recently, and now the original game has cut its price down to a third of its normal rate.

Hunters: Episode One HD – ($0.99)

The RPG/strategy action of the Hunters games keeps them in regular rotation here in our App Store Updates, and once again they’ve gone on sale for 99 cents apiece. Here’s the first one . . .

Hunters 2 – ($0.99)

. . . and here’s the second.

Lili – ($0.99)

One of the App Store’s most high-profile releases in recent memory, Lili is the gorgeous, quirky flower-picking adventure that you might have skipped back when it launched at $4.99. For just 99 cents, though, there shouldn’t be anything stopping you from checking it out now.

Plants vs. Zombies – ($0.99)

And here’s a high-profile release from not-so-recent memory, good old Plants vs. Zombies. An App Store classic if ever there was one.

Bookworm – ($0.99)

Of course, even more classic than PvZ is Bookworm, if we’re going to start getting nostalgic for PopCap here.

Order & Chaos Online – ($0.99)

It doesn’t get much better than 99 cents for a full-fledged iOS MMO.

The Dark Knight Rises – ($0.99)

Gameloft’s got a couple of superhero options on sale. First up, on the DC side of things, it’s Batman.

Iron Man 2 – ($0.99)

And on the Marvel side, Iron Man steps up.

EPOCH. – ($0.99)

Post-apocalyptic robot combat is also on offer for the same low rate.

Land-a-Panda – (Free)

And now, thank you for your patience. Here are today’s freebies, starting with Big Pixel’s panda launcher.

OLO Game – (Free)

The OLO Game is also free now. Check out its trailer to get up to speed:

King of Opera – (Free)

The fat lady will sing, but that won’t be the end – you’ll have to knock her off the stage.

SnowJinks – (Free)

There still hasn’t been any snow in my part of the country yet this year, so I’ll have to make due with this free virtual snowball fight.

Prince of Persia Retro – (Free)

Jordan Mechner’s classic, yours for no cost at all.

Kingdom Rush – (Free)

And we’ve saved the best for last. Kingdom Rush debuted way back in January of this year, but still stands as one of the greatest apps of 2012 here on the other end of the calendar. It’s an incredible game, and even more incredible is the fact that it’s absolutely free to download today. So do it! Or read our review, then do it!

Telltale’s Fire Sale!

And to finish off our huge Tuesday ASU, it’s another all-games-must-go fire sale – this time from Telltale. The studio known for its many episodic adventures series has marked almost their entire catalog down to 99 cents apiece, so check out series like:

Sam & Max | Wallace & Gromit | Back to the Future | Jurassic Park | HECTOR | Tales of Monkey Island

And that’s it for today! If you haven't already, subscribe to the App Store Update via email. For convenience!
