James Gunn Denies Guardians of the Galaxy Casting Buzz Director says Zachary Levi not in the running to star.

Director James Gunn has shot down the latest casting rumors about his upcoming Marvel movie Guardians of the Galaxy over at his Facebook page (a posting that he later removed).

Here's what Gunn said (via Geek Tyrant): "Almost everything in that Variety article on the Guardians of the Galaxy casting (and all the following articles based on it) was/is completely inaccurate. Just for the record."

The Variety article claimed that Chuck star Zachary Levi and Cloud Atlas' Jim Sturgess were the two frontrunners for the lead role of Peter Quill, the part-human/part-alien hero better known as Star-Lord.

Levi is currently playing Fandral in Marvel's Thor: The Dark World, having replaced Josh Dallas in the role. Sturgess was among the five actors who recently screen-tested for the role; Levi was not in that group.

Guardians of the Galaxy opens August 1, 2014.
