CW Developing a Female-Centered Robin Hood Drama Is this lady archer series inspired by Arrow?

The CW is taking on another adaptation.

The network is developing Sherwood, a new twist on Robin Hood with a female lead at the center, THR reports.

THR says that Sherwood is a period drama, “set in 1072 England and revolves around a young noblewoman who sets out to free her serf boyfriend, who has been wrongfully imprisoned by ruthless Norman occupiers. Seeing help from the vanished Robin of Locksley, she inadvertently reunites -- and joins -- the fabled Robin Hood and his Merry Men, inspiring new hope for the oppressed people of Nottingham.”

Errol Flynn as Robin Hood.

The CW is no stranger to taking previously established properties and adapting them for a television audience. With the success of Arrow and The Vampire Diaries, it comes as no real surprise that the network is looking to develop shows that may appeal to a cross-spectrum of their audience.

The network has specifically said that they were looking for a “Hunger Games-type” of series, so this female archer may be their answer.

Tze Chun (Cashmere Mafia) is set to pen the script with Dan Jinks (American Beauty, Emily Owens, M.D.) producing.

CW is making several high-profile character adaptation/audience-grabbing bets in their development department. They already have Amazon, a Wonder Woman origin story from Grey's Anatomy's Allan Heinberg and a contemporary Alice in Wonderland in the works.
