Cars Spinoff Planes Set to Soar on Big Screen Disney toon originally slated as straight-to-video release.

The Cars spinoff Planes was announced in 2011 as a direct-to-video release, but Disney has now shifted gears and slated the CG-animated movie for a big screen release instead.

Initially slated for a spring 2013 home video release, Planes will now fly into theaters August 9, 2013. Although a spinoff of a Pixar film, Planes will actually be distributed via the DisneyToons label. The movie revolves around a small-town plane named Dusty with a big dream.

Cryer had already done press for Planes, including an appearance at D23 in August 2011 where he recounted his experiences in the recording booth of about 10 sessions over a two-year period.
