GSG Win Their Second Game in a 1-1 tie Against KT Rolster A

KT Rolster A vs. GSG

This is week four of the OGN Winter Season where one team from each group, and of equal standings within their respective groups battle it out in inter-group matches. This game we have KT Rolster A vs. GSG. KT Rolster A was looking extremely strong in game one, crushing GSG, however in game two, GSG finally caught a break as they muscled their way to their second victory of the season.

Game 1

KTA

Bans: Karthus, Katarina, Rumble

Picks

  • Diana - Zero (mid)
  • Ezreal - Hiro (adc)
  • Olaf - Vitamin (top)
  • Leona - Wall (support)
  • Shyvana - ReSEt (jungle)

GSG

Bans: Rengar, Orianna, Zyra

Picks

  • Blitzcrank - ManDu (support)
  • Lee Sin - Solo (jungle)
  • Evelynn - Easy (mid)
  • Vayne - Clear (adc)
  • Vladimir - Cheonju (top)

The action didn't start until 10 minutes into the game with a one to one trade. After which both teams drastically increased their aggression. Initially, GSG was able to evenly trade kills with KTA. However, KTA had the upper hand with controlling objectives and farming which gave them the gold lead. KTA was able to gain much better map control which led to a free baron in the 24th minute. With baron, KTA was able to bully GSG into submission, taking towers, and starving GSG. Unfortunately, GSG made a less than ideal last stand as a Shyvana dive caught them off guard. The ensuing team fight ended in an ace for KTA, giving them game one.

Game 2

KTA

Bans: Katarina, Rumble, Karthus

Picks

  • Rengar - Vitamin (top)
  • Olaf - ReSEt (jungle)
  • Syndra - Zero (mid)
  • Caitlyn - Hiro (adc)
  • Sona - Wall (support)

GSG

Bans: Zyra, Orianna, Diana

Picks

  • Ezreal - Clear (adc)
  • Evelynn - Solo (jungle)
  • Lulu - ManDu (support)
  • Ahri - Easy (mid)
  • Irelia - Cheonju (top)

At first, it seemed that GSG was already quickly losing control of the game. However, in a surprising turn of events, GSG did not crumble under the pressure. Instead, they slowly turned the tables in their favor. After some difficulty, GSG slowly started clicking together. KTA was able to control objectives at first, but pick offs from GSG allowed them to catch up, keep even, and even take objectives of their own. Once team fights started, GSG found themselves edging out slightly in team fights. However, statistically, the game was completely even. In the next series of team fights, unfortunate mistakes plagued KTA, allowing GSG to come out ahead. GSG was able to continue to pick off KTA members, slowly pulling control of the game in their favor. Unfortunately, KTA could not regain their focus and continued to make mistakes, including allowing GSG a free baron. Now GSG began picking up their aggression which allowed them to establish a clear lead. Finally, in the 39th minute, a bad team fight from KTA would be their last, giving GSG the perfect ace and their first win of the season.

Match Breakdown

In game one, KTA seemed to almost effortlessly push back GSG. While GSG was able to keep up in kills, they were completely unable to keep up in objectives and farm which led to a substantial gold lead for KTA. Thus, GSG was no match for KTA in team fights and could only concede the game.

In game two, KTA played a completely different game. Maybe it was due to arrogance or cockiness, but GSG was able to take advantage of it. At first it seemed as if KTA was riding the momentum of game one, but the game quickly took a turn for the worse. GSG were able to pick off KTA members numerous times and in team fights Wall completely whiffed Crescendo, rarely hitting even one enemy champion. This led to many lost fights, and eventually the game.

MVP

The MVP for game one, for me, was ReSEt on Shyvana. As a jungler, Shyvana has less impact on lanes than other junglers. However, in team fights, ReSEt fearlessly initiated fights, and with the follow up from his team, they were able to quickly burst down high priority targets and win the team fights.

The game two MVP was GSG's jungler, Solo. While Solo had difficulty finding ganks early, he eventually managed to hit his stride, helping his team pick up multiple kills, and even some for himself. As late game rolled around, Solo turned into a tanky build and forced KTA to waste cooldowns which allowed the GSG carries to boldly chase and pick off KTA members one by one.
