MVP White propell themselves to the top of their group with a 2-0 series against Team OP

Team OP vs. MVP White

Finally returning to regular group stage matches, we have Team OP vs. MVP White. White is the clear favorite for this match, but in game one, Team OP gave them a run for their money. Unfortunately, the smallest misstep gave MVP control of the game, and eventually, victory. In game two, MVP showed their dominance as some nice jungle ganks quickly snowballed MVP to a 2-0 win.

Game1

OP

Bans: Lee Sin, Olaf, Cho'Gath

Picks

  • Lulu - ManyReason (support)
  • Ezreal - sBs (adc)
  • Master Yi - CornSalad (mid)
  • Dr. Mundo - nolja (jungle)
  • Irelia - May (top)

MVP

Bans: Rengar, Vladimir, Twisted Fate

Picks

  • Caitlyn - imp (adc)
  • Karthus - Mima (mid)
  • Darius - DanDy (jungle)
  • Sona - ming9 (support)
  • Shen - Homme (top)

The game started with White using a lane switch in an attempt to shut down CornSalad and rush towers. However, the lane switch didn't seem to have the ideal effect. While White did manage to procure the early gold lead, the game was far from decisive in White's favor. Team OP was still able to trade kills evenly with MVP White which eventually formed a deadlock. After trading a few kills, both teams realized the threat of the other, and toned down the aggression to look for that ideal opportunity. Around the 25th minute, White managed to take Team OP by surprise. ManyReason was able to keep the ensuing team fight to a 1-1 trade with an excellent ultimate, but the rest of Team OP was forced to recall, giving MVP the free baron. Now the scales have tipped in MVP's favor, and they wasted no time to use their baron buff. Using a split push, MVP was able to take towers at a rapid rate, forcing their way into Team OP's base. After healing and buying, MVP immediately continued to split push for the remaining towers. Without an answer to this pressure, Team OP could only resort to desperation  tactics and initiated a fight. Unfortunately, Team OP got decimated and MVP pushed to take the nexus.

Game2

OP

Bans: Rengar, Lee Sin, Cho'Gath

Picks

  • Caitlyn - sBs (adc)
  • Nunu - ManyReason (support)
  • Anivia - CornSalad (mid)
  • Maokai - nolja (jungle)
  • Rumble - May (top)

MVP

Bans: Twisted Fate, Vladimir, Zyra

Picks

  • Olaf - Homme (top)
  • Darius - DanDy (jungle)
  • Karthus - Mima (mid)
  • Sona - ming9 (sona)
  • Ezreal - imp (adc)

MVP White picked up where they left off with a beautiful counter gank from DanDy. With the early advantage focused on the jungler, the lane pressure increased greatly for Team OP. MVP continued to pick people off, increasing their lead. Team OP was occasionally able to trade, but ultimately, MVP was driving this game. The game stagnated towards the mid game, however to answer this, MVP switched to a split push strategy to ensure their progression towards victory. By now, MVP had procured an immense gold lead. Even when MVP showed complacency, Team OP was at most able to trade evenly, which drove them further into desperation. Eventually, MVP was able to take an uncontested baron which they used to break into Team OP's base. Due to negligence from MVP, Team OP was able to barely delay their loss, but MVP simply came back to continue their siege. Finally, the nexus was stripped bare of turrets, and MVP made one last push, decimated Team OP, and won the game.

Match Breakdown

Game one was an extremely close match. Even though MVP eventually had the consistent gold lead, both teams matched each other evenly in team fights. It was the smallest signs of carelessness that decided the game. In this case, it was a nice surprise initiation from MVP that eventually won them the game. Even though the team fight ended in a 1 for 1 trade, it ensured MVP baron which put their teams strength above Team OP.

Game two was not as close. MVP's DanDy was able to help his team run away with the lead. However, MVP must be careful in future matches. Near the end of the game, MVP became increasingly careless which ended up extending the match. Luckily MVP was so far ahead that they could afford these mistakes and still win. Had their lead been any smaller, MVP could have thrown the game.

MVP

The MVP was DanDy on Darius. His game one performance was not as noticeable, but he was able to land clutch apprehends that gave them the edge in team fights. In game two, his presence was an absolute nightmare for Team OP in the early game, especially after he picked up that double kill in top lane. Continuing to land beautiful apprehends, he became a driving force behind MVP's victory.
