Star Wars may be the greatest thing in existence ever, but the Original Trilogy is kind of a sausage fest. Aside from Princess Leia and Mon Mothma, those movies are pretty much all dudes (and droids and aliens, natch).
But that wasn't always the case. As it turns out, in Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi, there were not one, not two, but three unnamed female fighter pilots in the Battle of Endor. Two of them were featured in deleted scenes and extras on the Star Wars Saga Blu-ray release -- both of them were A-Wing pilots.
According to Star Wars Aficionado, one of these women (see image above) even had a few words to say in the film. However, her line "Got it!" was later replaced with a male's voice in post-production.
Then there's the third actress, an X-Wing pilot played by Vivienne Chandler (see image below), who had nearly a page and a half of dialogue in the script. Apparently, at one point, her part was incorporated into one of the early cuts of the film, but it was soon removed for the final release.
It's an odd string of events, isn't it? While we could speculate on sexism in the media and demo marketing 'til the Nerfs come home, we'll probably never know why these lovely ladies were ripped from the Star Wars canon.
Ah, well. We'll always have Pink Five, right?
