Gaiking Feature Lands The Walking Dead Exec Producer Hurd Mecha feature adaptation pins down producers.

Following in the footsteps of Guillermo Del Toro's Pacific Rim, Gale Anne Hurd’s Valhalla Entertainment (The Walking Dead) and Toei Animation are teaming with All Nippon Entertainment Works to develop their own mecha film Gaiking, based on the '70s anime series of the same name (which American audiences might recognize as Shogun Warriors or Force Five).

"I'm extremely excited to be working on Gaiking," said Hurd, "which marks a huge step forward in adapting one of the best Japanese IP for a global audience."

Gaiking centers on a young man who is recruited to pilot the Super Robot Gaiking against an alien race hellbent on taking over the world. Check out some of Toei's early test footage for a better sense of the project:
